On the 8th of March 2014, we met at Potteric Carr, for a stargazing evening. The sky was very hazy indeed, and only the half Moon and Jupiter could get through, but we set up our equipment in the place we'd done it last year, close to the bright road lights on the road rising above us. We had Rhys's 8" Celestron, Mark's 11" Celestron, Dave's 6" refractor and the big binoculars. Our team was Mark, Rhys, Dave and Lesley, Peter, Paul and Elaine, and of course, the unforgettable Sandra.
We had 22 visitors who met in the room, where we were to talk if nothing could be seen, as dusk was descending, and before the talk started we decided it was good enough to go out and look at what we could see, Jupiter and the Moon. Though heavily hazed they looked well and everyone was impressed. Lots of talking too. Then back to the room for the talk, but near the end decided to go out again and look. The sky was clearing gradually too so other items could be seen, and with stars visible the telescopes could be better aligned so other items could be found and seen. The visitors seemed very impressed and reported so to the staff, Kat Woolley and assistant, who asked us to return next year and consider possible summer occasions too. Photographs by Paul Booker.
We finished off after packing up at the Woodfield Farm pub.
